drunk driving

Parties. That could possibly be a complete sentence all in one word. The marvelous drinking games, beer pong, ect. that most kids, whether in college, high school, or maybe even middle school enjoy doing. Parties and drinking can be used and enjoyed at someones' birthday or maybe even a get together just to see each other. They are very fun, but when alcohol is put into the picture, you need to see to precautions. Alcohol is brought up as a thing to get everyone relaxed, more self confident, and make even the ugly friend look good. Even with all the festivities, every party has its end. With the end, comes decisions. How am I going to get home? Do I wait 15 minutes at the bus stop and come back for my car in the morning, or do I just drive; it's not that far anyways. These challenges come to everyone after a party if they have a car. What this Ad Campaign demonstrates is not only good decisions on the drinker and drivers behalf, but instead the friends' fault just as much. "Friends don't let friends drive drunk." This quote by the Ad council really shows emotional appeal because the fact they draw friends and loved one's into the picture.
James Madison University does a good job at keeping our students safe. They provide what us students call, "the Drunk Bus." It runs on Friday and Saturday nights insuring students have a safe ride back to their residence, whether its at the dorms or at an off campus house. The campus is using the messages from these Ad Campaigns and insure that they will ultimately do the very best they can to follow these campaigns to reduce, not only drunk driving, but careless things that maybe you wouldn't do if you weren't to have drank.

  1. I believe that the ad council's drunk driving campaign has made major changes in the way people view drinking and driving. Before the campaign, drinking and driving wasn't completely frowned upon. The way the ad council targeted friends and family members of those who drink and drive, they changed the way everyone thought about it. They introduced the concept of the designated driver and the line "friends dont let friends drive drunk" both are very effective ways to keep drunk drivers off the road.

  2. i think you did a good job showing how JMU responds to these ad commercials. Colleges need to have the most awareness of drunk driving and alcohol abuse.

  3. I also agree that u did an excellent job in showing how JMU responds to these certain types of commercials. The drunk bus is an excellent idea for JMU to use when there are people drunk after parties. The transportation provided by JMU does in fact cut down the number of deaths and serious injuries in my opinion because it takes cars off the rode. By not having cars on the rode and drunk people having to catch a bus, obviously the bus driver is not drunk so in a sense the bus driver is the designated driver for the night.

  4. I agree with what you are saying. I wish people would take more precautions when drinking and maybe plan and think ahead of time of how they are going to get home. There was a girl at my high school who T-boned and killed someone by running a stop light after a new years eve party. She wanted to come home and drive her self home for fear that if she told her parents to come pick her up because she had been drinking, she would get in trouble for being drunk. If only one of her friends who had been at the party had stopped her and not allowed her to drive, someone would still be alive today.

  5. I really like how you show JMU's response to this ad. I also like how you bring up the designated driver, showing a worldly response to this ad. The fact that it targets friends and family definitely set this ad apart and made it more effective in our lives. Individuals have this feeling of invincibility when they are drinking and feel like if they are the only people at risk, there is no way they are going to wreck because they are great drivers. However, by telling friends to look out for each other, people are going to use more common sense and help each other out.

  6. The Ad Council has made significant strides in actively trying to reach society to stop driving drunk. I believe that most of the ads that they have put out have been successful. However, this cannot be said for all of their most recent ads. You did a good job explaining how our school reacts to these ads. If colleges do not have a high awareness regarding the negative effects of alcohol, students would not be as properly warned.
